A Thermal Production unit is a tight package made of both a line heater and a separator all on one module. The Thermal Production unit is placed after the sand separator or if no sand is present, immediately after the wellhead. A Thermal Production unit is also known as a Gas Production Unit (GPU), T-Pack. Thermal Production units can be modified with different safety systems and instrumentation. They are very common in the Bakken and Rockies regions as well as Pennsylvania. Stacking the separator on top of the line heater in this setup reduces footprint and allows the radiant heat of the media bath to help warm the separator as well and can be very beneficial in cold weather environments.
