An Allocation Unit is a flow testing unit that measures the volume of oil, water, and gas coming in from a well. Allocation Units are always placed as close to the wellhead as possible, or to be one of the first vessels hit with the wellstream from the well head. Sand Separators or line heaters may be upstream of the Allocation unit to protect the Allocation unit. Allocation Units are also known as Metering Skids, Test Skids, Testing units. The Allocation unit can be highly accurate and precise to provide exact measurement or they can be less precise to provide more of a percentage of volume portions from each well. The measurement of the different volumes helps direct payment to royalty owners for different wells(ultimately measured at the LACT) and very important test data on well performance. Such information can also aide in choosing different drilling techniques in different regions and zones.
