FREE-WATER KNOCKOUTS
A Free-Water-Knock-Out is a 3 Phase vessel, typically horizontal orientation, that is meant to handle a large amount of water with a small amount of oil. Free-Water-Knock-Outs (FWKO) are normally placed near the beginning of a Facility so that the downstream equipment does not have to be sized with the large water volume. An FWKO or Water Knock Out, or Oil Skimmer Vessel. As stated, it removes the large water volume so that the downstream equipment can be sized for a smaller oil to water ratio, and heat and injection chemicals are not invested into large amounts of water.
